Trying out Obsidian

Setting up Obsidian for the first time. One of my buddies in my writing group said he uses it for taking notes all year and managing his poetry and writing projects so I figured I'd give it a try.
It reminds me of Evernote and a few other task programs. I used to use Evernote back in 2009 for a while until they made it paid and I switched to Omnigraffle and that went paid for accounts. This app being just a manager for local text notes seems a bit more stable. (I've got the main files saved in iCloud.) Hell, it's not even text files it's markdown files which means when you open it in other apps you're gonna have all the markdown artifacts appear like the brackets and exclamation points to nothing.
Anyway, I'll give this a shot because the last time I tried using software to wrangle my writing I hated it. The writing community loves to talk about Scrivener but it had so much bloat and extra windows that I couldn't keep things on track there either. So we'll see how long things last with this one. At least I can copy/paste the stuff here to bear blog.
Normally when plotting out a book I use word and excel. I'll put all the characters and their traits into the excel file then have a word doc for the outline, and another for the actual draft. Because I am ancient I print the excel and outline pages out and hand write notes on them as I go. "What was the MC's mom's first name again? Oh it's here." and then I don't have to scroll up or search chapters for it.
For starters I'm making folders for each story then letting things drill down from there. I probably won't be writing chapters or drafts in here but I will be using it as a glorified wiki and to store the outlines.
